United in Remembering

Series:

Today is a very special day, with a double emphasis—one civic—Memorial Day—and one spiritual—the Festival of Pentecost. The word which ties both of these days together is remember. This morning we may do some family kind of remembering, which may bring a tear to the eye and/or a smile to the face. We may also do some national kind of remembering, which makes us mindful that our continuing freedom as citizens of the United States of America was and is purchased at a very high price. We also remember that our spiritual freedom was purchased at a high price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke of this when He said to His followers, “The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” We gather here to hear His word, to be taught, to be reminded, and to be strengthened in our faith that we may go out into our schools, our work places, our neighborhoods, sharing this life-giving message of the forgiving love of our Savior and Lord, serving as the heart, hands, and feet of Jesus in the heart of Orlando, and around the world.
