In our church lingo we talk about there being "only one true God,” but what does this mean? We believe that there is one God, and He has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–three Persons, co-equal, co-eternal, one God. The mind cannot fully conceive all that this means, but we acknowledge it and profess it. And we believe that this one God is the only true God because only He has the power to rescue and redeem. On this Confirmation Sunday our confirmands make their profession of faith, confessing their belief in this one God who sent His Son Jesus Christ for them. What does it mean for us in this pluralistic culture to state with conviction that there is only one true God? How can we pass along this faith in winsome and effective ways?
