We Believe: God's Power, Not Ours
Perhaps on the surface, the concept seems so basic, so simple, so obvious: our faith, our life in Christ, our salvation rests solely in God’s power and not our own. (That’s grace. That’s the heart of the Gospel.) And yet, it is probably easier to affirm this truth it is to continually live it out. In fact, the words penned by the Apostle Paul speak of this treasure of the Gospel that is ours through Jesus being contained in “jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7) Every challenge, every difficulty, every weakness reveals to us (individually and corporately as a church) that it is not about us. It is all about Jesus. We rely entirely on Him. Because of Him, we do not lose heart because through Him we are continually being renewed, all so that His light would shine in the darkness. These words have much to say to us when we feel broken because of our sin, when we feel worn down because of the world, and when we might feel beat up by the evil one. Jesus’ promises not only give us hope, but His power enables us to share that hope as we shine with the light of Christ. How and for whom will you let His light shine this week?
