Walking with Jesus in Triumph
Palm Sunday, the “Triumphal Entry” of Jesus in to Jerusalem. Entering as a humble king on a colt never before ridden. Cloaks strewn across the road. Disciples joyfully praising God at the top of their lungs for the miracles they had seen. The genuine and joyful praise offered to God in Jesus’ name absolutely did make this moment filled with “triumph.” Not even the criticism of those from the sect of the Pharisees could squelch this praise, for if those walking with Jesus were silent, the stones would cry out. But the road into Jerusalem also leads to the executioner’s cross, where Jesus would give His life for ours. There would be no triumph for us without His passion (or, suffering), death, and resurrection. A Steward’s Reflection: How does my life celebrate Jesus’ triumph? Living in His victory, in what ways does my life cry out in praise for the One who entered Jerusalem for me?

This prayer from the Lutheran Book of Worship strikes a resonant chord with those who walk with Jesus: Lord God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Walking with Jesus makes all of life an adventure, and the best part of it is that we get to walk with the One who is the Son of God. Stewardship Emphasis: As a part of our Lenten journey, we also consider in very practical ways how God has set us apart and called us to manage all of life for the sake of the Kingdom. It causes us to reflect: What am I experiencing as I walk with Jesus? And how is He leading me for the sake of the Kingdom of God?
