The Fruit of the Spirit

I am often struck by how often the Bible uses agrarian imagery to paint the picture of the Kingdom of God. (The Christian faith is certainly more organic than it is mechanical.) One Biblical image that catches my attention is that of “bearing fruit.” As we prepare to talk about the fruit of the Spirit this summer, what does it mean for us to “bear fruit?” Is bearing fruit merely talking about being productive in what we do for God as we live out our faith? As those who are saved purely by God’s grace (undeserved love), how can we speak of the Spirit’s work in our lives bringing about the outcomes—the results—that God desires?
