Testimony: A Story Pointing to the Light

John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ, knew well that this wasn’t all about him. John pointed clearly to Jesus as the Light of the World, God’s Chosen One. As great a prophet that John was, he spoke of Jesus’ surpassing greatness: “He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am unworthy to untie.” Advent is the perfect time to point to Jesus as God’s Chosen One, the Light of the World. All people need the light that He brings. All people need the life that He gives. All people need the forgiving and sacrificial love that Jesus will pour out so willingly for the world. How is God moving you to point to Jesus as the Light of the world? What is your testimony of how Jesus’ light has given you hope and peace in this dark world?

Scripture References: John 1:6-8

From Series: "The Story of His Coming"

The season of Advent is a time when we anticipate and prepare for Christ’s coming: preparing to celebrate with joy His coming on that first Christmas as well as preparing to receive Him when He comes again. The Scriptures that engage us during this season of Advent tell the story of watching, waiting, preparing, telling the good news, and trusting in God’s promises. In the midst of all the things that fill our lives with the busyness and the trappings of the season, our Lord fills us with something substantive to share: the hopeful expectation of Jesus’ coming, along with new ways to engage others as we tell His story.
