“Discipline in the spiritual life is the concentrated effort to create the space and time where God can become our master and where we can respond freely to God’s guidance. Thus, discipline is the creation of boundaries that keep time and space open for God”
—Henri Nouwen
When the child of God practices mindfulness (being present in the moment) and meditation (listening for God’s voice as we ponder His Word) as spiritual disciplines, those tools help create that time and space for God to cut through the noise of this life. How are you putting into practice listening for God’s voice—being still, being present in the moment? How do you struggle with these disciplines? The good news is that our God in Christ has drawn near to us so that we might draw near to Him.
A “Lifehack” describes any advice, shortcut, tip or skill that will help you get things done more efficiently and effectively. Because it is God’s Word, the Bible is our guide to all things in faith and life. Above all, it shows us Jesus, our Savior, and all that He has done to make us God’s people. It also empowers us and guides us as we live for God and we make a difference in this world for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom. Our Summer Back-to-Basics theme of “Lifehacks: Biblical Tools to Amplify your Faith” from Scripture is inspired by topics in the NIV Lifehacks Bible.
