Today, Jesus meets “the woman by the well.” She might not have been the first person any of us would have invited to worship. She had tried to quench her thirst in so many ways, leaving too much baggage…and too much talk. But on this day, she meets Jesus, the One who with the pure love of God promises to quench her thirst with the water of life. And she would become one of the most notable witnesses—the whole town comes to know Jesus through her. In what ways do you long for God? Jesus invites you to see how He will quench your deepest thirst. Who do you know that needs the quenching water of life that the Messiah can give? Families, whole neighborhoods, and whole towns today can be changed as they encounter Jesus, the One who gives living water.
During these Sundays in Lent (a time in the church where we prepare for the great Easter celebration of Jesus’ resurrection), we zero in on ways in which Jesus exerted His divine authority, spoke truth with vivid imagery, and changed our eternal destiny. As the One who is fully-God and fully-Man, He singlehandedly changed the course of human history. As we fix our eyes on Jesus, we ask the questions: What does this mean for me? And how do I share this with others so that they, too, are drawn to our victorious and loving Lord?
