Events in our world—unsettled and unsettling—indicate that something is about to happen. It seems that it is all around us: an expectation filled with anxiety and perhaps even despair. Jesus, however, announces that these things signal His imminent coming—and He calls us to stand and to lift our heads because our redemption is drawing near. We who trust in Jesus and His redemption look forward to that day, and in this time we find urgency not only to watch and pray, but also to serve and share the hope that He brings.
The word “Advent” means “coming.” Something is coming… SomeOne is coming…and with Him, comes hope. In this time of preparation for our celebration of Christ’s first advent, and in our longing for His coming again, God again and again fills our lives with His version of hope—a certainty and expectation rooted in God’s Word and His faithfulness. Lives filled with hope in Christ reach other lives so they, too, can experience the renewal and hope found only in Jesus, our coming Savior and King.
