The Gift of Peace Beyond Comprehension

The Lord is generous in giving us the gift of peace. Gone are the rivalries and the barriers that separate us from each other. A generous living begins by recognizing that all we have is a gift from God and that nothing is ours. For our congregation, a multicultural church situated in a diverse neighborhood, this passage means a lot. Paul speaks of the cultural barriers that separated Jews from Gentiles, but before God’s eyes both were lost and condemned and only through the work of Christ, by the power of His death and resurrection, can the peoples of the earth experience true reconciliation. And through Christ nations are called to become one and work for the causes of peace and reconciliation. In Jesus, we have received forgiveness and He calls us to forgive others just as He has so abundantly forgiven us. We at Prince of Peace/Príncipe de Paz envisions ourselves as “A Christ-centered, multicultural church inspired by the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacrament to engage the community with God’s grace and love.” In what ways have you seen God overcome obstacles and remove barriers so that we can effectively serve our community with God’s love in tangible ways? How is God giving you peace in your home? How might you be an ambassador of peace in your neighborhood?

From Series: "Generous Living"

Each summer we at Prince of Peace go “back to basics” as we take a fresh look at our relationship with our loving God and how that shapes our lives in this world. This summer as we go back to basics we consider the topic, “Generous Living.” God our Father has given great and wonderful gifts to His children. He is the most generous Giver, giving even His Son, Jesus Christ for us. All blessings ultimately come to us through Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man. As God’s people, we learn that God’s design is that we neither hide nor hoard any of the gifts we have freely received from Him. Rather, God invites and calls us to share His gifts with those around us. Our willingness to share what God has given us with others becomes an expression of our gratitude, all flowing from grateful hearts shaped by God’s grace.
