Faithful to Provide

God engages us through two narratives in His Word today. In one, a widow was getting ready to prepare what she thought would be the final meal for her and her son at a time of devastating drought and famine—and then God showed up and provided as only He could do. In the other narrative, Jesus was “people watching” when He saw the remarkable faith of an impoverished widow who made the most substantial offering Jesus had ever seen. In each narrative, we see God present, faithful to provide, sustaining and blessing His people. Even more than that, we reflect on how Jesus was “all in,” how the totality of Jesus’ life was one of giving all that He was and all that He had so that we might live.Think of a time when you felt that all was lost—that there was no longer any hope—and then God showed up. Great is His faithfulness to provide all that we need, so that our lives in Him might be more than we could ever have imagined or hoped for.
