End-Time Disciples: Faithful Forever

As Jesus is coming to the ultimate end of His earthly ministry, He guides His disciples in knowing what to anticipate in the “end times” and prepares them for the challenges that they will face. End-time disciples confidently place their trust in Christ alone, for He has declared that although in this world we will have trouble, we take heart for He has overcome the world. Moreover, we can anticipate opportunities to let Jesus’ light shine in the darkness, sharing His love and sharing His powerful, eternal Word. He promises that the Spirit will give us the words and supply us with courage and clothe us with perseverance until the end. With joy and confidence we can approach every challenge, for Jesus reigns victorious and we belong to Him. What causes you (or those you know) anxiety or concern as we live in these end times? How can knowing Jesus is victorious and we are His shape our perception of everything going on in our world? Is there anyone Jesus is moving you to pray for as He prepares you to listen to their story and share His story with them?

At the heart of being Christian, there is this core concept of following Jesus. The disciple follows his or her master, imitating the master and learning along the way. The church is in the disciple-making business, connecting people to Jesus and leading them in the process of walking in His ways. This discipleship process is never completed for any of us in this life—we are continually learning and growing as we follow Jesus until He brings us to our heavenly home. • What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus, a Christ-follower? • What are the core marks of those who follow Jesus faithfully? What does being a disciple look like? • How are disciples shaped and formed as they continue to walk with Jesus? And we always remember that God’s design is not to make us out to be “cookie-cutter Christians”—rather, discipleship is a process, a life-long learning adventure. It is, at its core, the art of following Jesus every day, knowing that Jesus has promised to be with us always, expecting that we will “bear much fruit” as we remain in Him and He remains in us.
