Ash Wednesday is a deeply spiritual moment of truth. While the curse of sin ties us to the ashes of death, the mark of the Cross speaks powerfully of how, through Word and Sacrament, God provides the means for us to be united with Jesus, the One who experienced and overcame death for us. Worshiping Jesus on this day, we not only acknowledge our need for renewal, but we also express the confidence and peace that is ours as the children of God. As Jesus draws you close today, what need for renewal do you find within yourself? In Christ we are a “new creation; the old is gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17) What will that mean for you as you live as a child of God in the days ahead?
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” — Romans 12:2
Our Lenten journey towards the cross gives us an opportunity to be renewed by the power of God as His Spirit works through the Word and Sacraments. Invite someone to join you as together are we are transformed during this “Time for Renewal.”
