It takes courage to be a church that bears fruit for the Kingdom. The need for courage comes not as much because of attacks from the outside as it comes from the need for transformation within; courage, because what worked yesterday probably doesn’t work today; courage to acknowledge that to live “on mission” means focusing less on our needs and comfort and focusing more on “being the church” in the world and welcoming newcomers. But take heart and have courage, church—Jesus our Risen Lord has overcome the world. What about those statements challenge you? make you feel uncomfortable? energize you? Jesus did not call His followers to comfort or mediocrity. He has called us to draw people to Him, to live under His reign, and share in His victory … all for the sake of the Kingdom.
